Where to eat cachopo in Madrid as if you were in Asturias

We celebrate the Day of Asturias giving us a tribute with one of its most emblematic dishes.

On September 8, the Day of Asturias is celebrated with the feast of the Virgin of Covadonga, its patron saint. To pay tribute to this region, we have decided to pay homage to one of the most legendary Asturian dishes -although it is not the only one-. Take note to know where you can eat a good cachopo in Madrid as if you were in Asturias.

La Guisandera de Piñera

It is one of the most renowned Asturian restaurants in Madrid. It offers a renewed traditional cuisine, which pays tribute to the guisanderas, those mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, who keep the recipes of a lifetime. In its menu you should order the Asturian Cachopo of sirloin steak tribute to “Fernando Martín”, which costs 26 €. But you will also find other specialties such as Pitu de caleya stewed grandmother’s style with potatoes, Entrecôte of Asturian “Casina” cow, Asturian fabada and even Pedro Martino’s “Callos a la asturiana”.

Arrabal

If you are looking for where to eat a good cachopo in the heart of Madrid, your obligatory stop will be the Arrabal restaurant, located in the Plaza Mayor. It was the winner of the Best Cachopo of Madrid 2022 and is still on the menu. It is made with beef tenderloin, ham and smoked cheese from Pría, costs 29.50 € and as a curiosity they serve it accompanied by a small Asturian hórreo.

La Charca

In the heart of Madrid, near Plaza España, you will also find another must to try a delicious cachopo. This time it is the winner of the Best Cachopo of Spain in 2020. It is made with Asturian beef, Iberian ham and three Asturian cheeses. It costs 28 € and you can accompany it with the sweet touch of its exquisite cheesecake.

Where? At Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 7, Madrid.

El Ñeru

This cider house specializing in Asturian cuisine is also located very close to the Plaza Mayor. In addition to serving a succulent cachopo, in this place it is also essential to order its fabada, which was awarded as the Best Fabada in the World in 2014. A few months ago, Princess Leonor visited the restaurant with her companions from Wales, where they tasted the fabada and cabrales cheese, among other delicacies.

Where? At Calle de los Bordadores 5, Madrid.

Casa Hortensia

It is another of the temples of cachopo in the capital. Located in the Asturian Center of Madrid, Casa Hortensia has been serving authentic Asturian food since 1985. Its cachopo is one of the most legendary in the city with its classic proposal that includes Serrano ham, cheese and an excellent breading. Its price is 30,50 €. The restaurant is part restaurant and part cider house, but the cachopo is available in both.

Where? At Calle Farmacia 2, Madrid.

Urumea

If you want a big proposal -or to share among several-, you should visit this restaurant that serves one-meter cachopos. It is an original and succulent tribute to the typical Asturian dish. It has a kilo and a half of meat and is accompanied by three cheeses of the area: the pear tree, Afuega’l Pitu and another one that melts them, in addition to Iberian ham. It is designed for four people. The inventor of this proposal is Tito Gómez, owner of Urumea.

Where? At 7 Cochabamba Street, Madrid.

Hermanos Ordás

This house founded in 1959 is another place to eat traditional Asturian cuisine, including its cachopo, which was the winner of the Best Cachopo in Madrid in 2016. The dish costs 26 €.

Where? At 63 Diego de León Street, Madrid.

Antológico

If you want to try the 2nd Best Cachopo of Madrid in 2022, you must go to Alcalá de Henares to try the creation of Antológico, whose Asturian cow cachopo costs 22 € and has cecina from León, a selection of cheeses and its secret breading. They have an XL size for 33 € and even a chicken cachopo option. You can also order it by delivery.
