Why eat ramen on the one hand and drink beer on the other, when you can combine them in the same bowl? Surely this is what Yuu Japanese Tapas restaurant, in Canada, thought when it launched its original Beer Ramen. Judging by the success among its customers, it is a proposal -we don’t know where to place it on the menu- that is here to stay.

This dish (or pitcher, in this case) has a trick, as it’s not really made with anything resembling beer, but it does include ramen, of course. It’s noodles in a cold bonito broth served in a pitcher of beer. To create the typical beer foam, it is made with egg white and gelatin.

This trompe l’oeil came about a few years ago due to a heat wave. The owners of Yuu Japanese Tapas decided to innovate by creating a cold ramen dish. To achieve this, they first boil the ramen using the normal process, then submerge it in an ice cube and cool it down. They are added into the beer mug, along with the cold broth and foam.

The original proposal is usually accompanied by the combo of fried chicken or vegetables. And it is not the only creative dish they have in this Canadian place. You can also try the squid ink ramen, the cheesy mochis or the popcorn chicken.
