Today is one of the sweetest and roundest days of the year. The first Friday of June is World Donut Day and, as we at Tapas have a sweet tooth, we have selected some of the places in Madrid where you can eat great donuts. Is there a more rounded way to start the weekend?

Lulu Artisanal

This artisanal donut shop (among other sweets) is revolutionizing the capital. Each elaboration is like a work of art and you can find delicious and original flavors in donut form: pistachio and rosewater, mascarpone, hazelnut and even bacon with maple glaze… Shall we prepare an order? Of course, hurry because their preparations are limited: they start at 10 am until they are sold out.

Bite Me Café

Another place not to be missed. Here everything they serve is 100% plant-based and they are characterized by their originality and innovation in their creations. In fact, every week they change their flavors to surprise their customers. This week they have one with peanut pastry filling, creamy milk chocolate glaze, chocolate coating drizzle surrounded by caramelized almond crocanti and also another one with pistachio and pear. What will they surprise us with next?

They started 10 years ago with their first store in Barcelona and now they are in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville and even in Gibraltar and Saudi Arabia. Their premise is clear: to enjoy a space dedicated 100% to chocolate. And how do they achieve this? With daily handmade creations ranging from cakes, muffins, cookies, brownies and, of course, their popular berlinas. They have them in a variety of flavors and all very tempting (Kit Kat, Kinder, cheesecake…). Their krönuts are also a very good option.

A sweet as ‘goxo’ as donuts, could not be missing in the menu of Dabiz Muñoz’s delivery in the form of donuts. The XO Donuts are filled with chocolate cream with toasted hazelnuts and Thai coconut milk soup. Undoubtedly, surprising and very dripping, 100% GoXO.

Delish Vegan Doughnuts

Vegan doughnuts are more fashionable than ever. With two locations in Madrid, Delish Vegan Doughnuts is the first store in the capital that serves artisanal and 100% vegan doughnuts. In addition, you can customize them by ordering them in the shape of a letter in raspberry, chocolate and/or Vanilla flavors. And if you are a fan of ‘The Simpsons’, you can also try Homer’s famous doughnut.

VegAmazing Doughnuts

Other donuts with a vegan concept that are also taking Madrid by storm. Its name lives up to its flavor: amazing. Located in the heart of the Salamanca neighborhood (they also have another place in Tirso de Molina), it is an ideal place to enjoy a breakfast with delicious orange and pistachio, lemon, ginger, hibiscus and caramelized almond, hazelnut or classic glazed donuts. In addition, this place is pet friendly.

PerretxiCo

And to finish this sweet route, we bring you a totally different and innovative proposal: PerretxiCo’s cocido donut. Yes, as you read it. This original proposal of the traditional Madrilenian dish is served in donut format. Finalist in the Spanish Contest of cocido del SXXI, the creation is by Josean Merino, chef of the PerretxiCo taverns. It is a pintxo that can be eaten in two steps, filled with chickpea puree mixed with Beasain blood sausage, blood sausage meat, shredded chicken and txistorra and dipped in a stew broth. You have to try it!
