“Son of winegrowers, winemaker and exemplary businessman. A generous and beloved husband, father and grandfather. A self-made man but with roots as deep as the oldest vines in the heart of the Ribera. A born leader who has dreamed and made people dream, who has taught and left so much to emulate”. With these words Pago de los Capellanes bids farewell to the businessman Paco Rodero (Pedrosa, Burgos, 1950), founder, together with his wife, Conchita Villa, of Pago de los Capellanes and O Luar do Sil, who died on March 22 in Barcelona at the age of 73.

Paco Rodero was one of the most renowned winemakers in Spain. Together with his wife Conchita Villa, whom he met in Barcelona after emigrating from his hometown, he founded the wineries after some years of collaborating as winemakers with some founding wineries in Ribera del Duero, according to La Voz de Galicia.

“Growing in full harmony with respect for the land and its fruits. This has been, at every step, the energy that moves Paco and Conchita’s experience. And at every step they have sought the emotion, the pleasure and the connection with the truth that great wines treasure. Today the Pago de los Capellanes family and O Luar do Sil represent the path of excellence that Spanish wine can and must follow to find the full and deserved recognition in the world”, highlights the winery’s publication.
