The after party of the big awards night is often staged not in a sumptuous Hollywood fine dining restaurant, but at the most iconic burger chain in Los Angeles.

The stars line up at this fast food restaurant to satiate their appetites and celebrate their awards collectively. From Julia Roberts or Reese Witherspoon to Adele or Diane Kruger, all of them have experienced the post-gala at one of its tables.

So says Jimmy Kimmel to PEOPLE magazine, who addresses this issue in depth from his expertise as Oscar host. Nothing against McDonald’s, but on awards night, it’s In-N-Out’. And not only on the night of the Oscars, but of other important awards such as the Golden Globes, this place becomes the desired destination.

A trend that Paul Giamatti’s, who, after winning the award for best actor in a comedy or musical for his role in ‘The Holdovers’, appeared in one of the establishments of the chain, dressed in a tuxedo to eat one of their menus; starring in an iconic scene that would end up going viral on the Internet.

When Kimmel wanted to know if Giamatti planned to dine there after this year’s Oscars, he replied, ‘Yeah, probably.’ ‘But I’ll stay in the car,’ he added.

The host then went on to justify the reasons behind celebrities’ obsession with dining at In-N-Out: ‘I think part of it is because when people are in Los Angeles, one of the things on their list is to go to In-N-Out – and there are a lot of people who are in Los Angeles just for the Oscars – so they end up saying, ‘Okay.’ ‘ Plus, you get really hungry, so In-N-Out is definitely the tradition of the awards galas.

The In-N-Out phenomenon

In a recent promo for the Oscars, which will take place on March 11, 2024, there was even a nod to the burger joint. In the clip, Ryan Gosling appears in Weird Barbie’s car and excitedly exclaims, ‘I got In-N-Out!’

‘It’s kind of a social media fad where you drink it before the Oscars,’ explains Gosling, nominated for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. ‘I think the trend is to eat In-N-Out after the Oscars,’ Kimmel corrects him.

‘Well, that’s not going to happen,’ Gosling says, tossing down his drink and bag of food. ‘Good thing Greta has director in the bag,’ he adds, before America Ferrera informs him that Gerwig was left out of the category.
