Recipe for Chinese bread or mantou, fried or steamed

Ingredients:

  • 250 g flour
  • 125 ml water
  • 2 g dry yeast
  • 60 g sugar
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt
  • Butter

Preparation:

  • Put all the ingredients in a bowl: flour, yeast, salt, sugar and mix well.
  • Add the warm water and a little butter and start kneading until a homogeneous dough is formed. Then cover with a kitchen towel until it rises in volume.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and form a square with the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions.
  • Continue working the dough and with the help of a rolling pin form a 2 cm rectangle and paint it with a little butter, then roll it from one end to the other. Do the same with all the rolls you want to cook and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • If you prefer to steam them, you will have to prepare the steamer and leave them for 10-12 minutes.
  • If you are going to fry them, heat the oil, fry the Chinese bread until lightly browned and place them on absorbent paper to remove the excess oil.

You can eat it plain or accompany it with any Chinese dish or sauce.
