The Met Gala 2024 was not only about fashion and gossip. The most important event in the fashion world unfolded this year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a new edition that focused its theme on ‘sleeping beauties: rewakening fashion’; centred on how technology has the capacity to reinvent garments to give them a new life.

The red carpet was filled with a constellation of Hollywood stars who dazzled in looks that evoked nature or the fantasy of fairy tales. However, it wasn’t all about the clothes, there were also some great gastronomic moments that added to the excitement of the iconic event, and even extended to its after-parties.

Caviar with fried potatoes for Kylie, Em Rata and Cardi B

The menu at the luxurious Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side where some A-list celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski or Cardi B stayed, was characterised by combining lavishness with fast food in a series of food items such as Kaspia caviar, Met Gala signature fries, gourmet organic chicken hot dogs or Jean-Georges grass-fed veal with kimchi sauce, reports Page Six.

Michael Shannon wore one of Balenciaga’s ‘chip-bags’

The ‘Revolutionary Road’ singer decided to break all the dress codes of the event with a classic dinner jacket and a culinary accessory that caught the attention of all the attendees and paparazzi: one of the Balenciaga clutches with which the brand raises a bag of Lays crisps with ‘cheese & onion’ flavour to the high-end sphere.

Anna Wintour banned three foods from the menu

Anna Wintour dictates fashion trends, but so does the food that made up the Met Gala menu. The iconic Vogue editor-in-chief banned three of them because she ‘didn’t particularly like them’. And those were garlic, onions and chives, according to Page Six.

The magical evening of the Met

The gala dinner led by Olivier Cheng, the caterer, was orchestrated around a ‘somewhat romantic and ethereal menu, but focused on the best seasonal ingredients’, he told Vogue.

The evening began with a spring vegetable salad with elderflower foam, raspberry vinaigrette and olive crumble with butterfly croutons. Guests also enjoyed a veal fillet topped with a tortellini rose for the main course and a ‘not-so-poisonous apple’ with a nod to Snow White.

Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny shared a few cocktails

One of the key moments of the Met after parties was undoubtedly Kendall Jenner and her ex Bad Bunny. Both attended the Après Met 2 Met Gala Afterparty at WSA, a place where, as can be seen in the image, they were allegedly very affectionate with Blue House cocktails, reactivating the alarms and speculation about a love reunion.

At the Doja Cat after party, burgers and chips were eaten

The after-party for rapper Doja Cat‘s event featured a guest list full of celebrities including Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton and Cardi B. There, at 2am, attendees were treated to some veggie burgers and sides from plant-based chain Neat.
