The Mason Jar was the Michigan restaurant that witnessed this emotional act by one of its customers.

As reported by NBC Chicago, the team was shocked when one of their diners decided to leave a $10,000 tip on a $32 bill after dining at the restaurant.

The manager of The Mason Jar Café, in particular, revealed that he was so shocked by the gesture that he approached the man to confirm the exorbitant tip.

To begin with, absolute disbelief. We went back and forth. I had a conversation with him. He wanted to go on. He [the waiter] was absolutely shocked,’ manager Tim Sweeney conceded to WOOD-TV.

But what was the real motive behind the tip? The mystery customer was in town to attend the funeral of a friend, and that tip would transcend emotionally as a tribute or homage to his memory.

The restaurant’s Instagram account shared a photo accompanied by the following caption: ‘At a time when so much is going on, we wanted to share and thank the person who did this life-changing act. Sometimes things can get really heavy, but this was such an incredible act to have seen first hand in our restaurant.’

Although the tip was given to the waitress who served the man in question, she chose to share the money with the eight other staff members who witnessed the moment.
