Where to eat the best churros in Madrid?

We take a nostalgic and contemporary tour of the best churrerías in the capital.

From breakfast to late afternoon snack: chocolate with churros, as an emblem of the local tradition, transcends the seasons to become a timeless combination. However, taking into account that Christmas is the time of its greatest splendour, we take a look at the most legendary and innovative churrerías in Madrid where you can enjoy the experience both on the premises and in urban stalls or at home.

Chocolat

Chocolat is the classic café in the Barrio de las Letras where you can taste the purity of thick, artisan chocolate, like a base on which to dip the churros or porras, also delicately made daily in their workshop.

Their famous chocolate is characterised by its low percentage of sugar and high proportion of cocoa: a balance that their master chocolatier has achieved over the years. They also have inclusive options such as lactose-free, gluten-free and sugar-free chocolate on their menu.

Manosanta

Today’s churro with the original recipe’. This sacred churro shop arrived on the Madrid scene about two years ago, and since then it has become an authentic designer hot spot that masterfully reinterprets churros with chocolate, as well as other versions of the same, such as the ‘churro sandwich with homemade ice cream’, its ‘cubes with churros’ or ‘porras’ to dip in its dulce de leche, condensed milk or Nutella sauces.

Where can you find them? Calle de Hermosilla, 97.

La antigua churrería

As its name reflects, this churrería is known for being one of the oldest in Madrid. It first opened in Puente de Ventas in 1913 and today it has spread over several branches throughout the city.

Its fourth generation of churros makers continues to uphold the legacy of the premises and the recipe of great-grandmother Juana, in the midst of the architectural jewels of Madrid in the 1950s. Thus, its churros and porras -100% handmade- have evolved over time with new additions such as fillings or wrapped in cream or dulce de leche.

Where can you find them? Conde de Peñalver, 32.

Churrocks

From ‘Churrocks‘ they define themselves as a ‘neo-castiza’ churro shop in which they reinvent the traditional churro formulas from both Valencia and Madrid.

Their extensive menu offers all kinds of sweets made with churros: from their classic packs of 5 or 10 served with toppings and sauces such as dark chocolate, oreo or kinder bueno, to the porras or the churros wrapped in filipinos, kinder or pistachio.

La Andaluza

This small churrería serves its visitors churros and porras from dawn, along with coffees or hot chocolates to intensify the flavour of the ritual.

Its combination of flour, oil, cocoa and quality potato ends up sculpting handmade crispy and spongy churros and porras that manage to acquire that texture that has captivated everyone.
