Watches with light blue dials are all the rage lately, which is why brands in the trade are adding them to their catalogs. From Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet at the highest end to Rolex and, a few rungs below in price, Casio and Seiko. Many of them have opted for a type of turquoise blue called Tiffany blue, the corporate hue of the New York jewelry firm Tiffany & Co. which, when it dresses the dial of a watch, automatically becomes a desirable accessory. Others tone down the intensity of the blue and offer a more pastel, or more glacial, shade.

The last to propose a novelty of this type has been Tissot, one of the firms of the Swatch group that provides the entrance to the great Swiss watchmaking, with affordable prices (from 345 euros) and very appealing options, such as the PRX and the Gentleman. The latter model is very recent, if we consider that Tissot was born in 1853. It was presented in 2019 with a look in line with the times and a slight retro touch in its domed sapphire crystal, and its 27 references are only available with a 40 mm diameter case.

Now, the Gentleman series debuts an ice blue dial, a fashionable color that already appeared in the PRX collection of Tissot and, given its success, has been replicated in this one. The Tissot Gentleman Ice Blue (925 euros) is born in steel, with a thickness of 11.5 mm and an automatic movement (the well-known Powermatic 80 caliber with silicon spiral) incorporated that is visible through the transparent caseback. It provides a very generous 80 hours of power reserve, approximately, and the functions of hours, minutes, seconds and date at 3 o’clock.

On the dial, clean and minimalist, the applied indexes and Dauphine-type hands have been covered with luminescent material so that the time can be read in the dark. As for the bracelet, it is interchangeable, and fastens with a butterfly clasp with pushers.

In short, it is a unisex specimen that is easy to please a large number of watch enthusiasts, who can use it throughout the day, from going to the office until they extend the day with a dinner with friends, for example. If the Gentleman continues on the path set by Tissot’s PRX, many tempting novelties in different colors and sizes await us in the coming years.
