The competition that showcases the best national cheeses opened a new edition in which 880 cheeses from different parts of Spain were judged. In it, there was one cow’s cheese that eclipsed the rest.

The ‘Salón de Gourmets‘, known for being the most popular competition in the cheese sector in our country, took place over two qualifying phases in which a panel of critics made up of 60 judges chose 60 finalists from which they would select the best version of all. The supreme expression finds its origins in Lanzarote and is called ‘Don Nicolás‘.

The production process

This exquisite Canarian cheese is made at Finca de Uga, founded in late 2006 by the Rosa Group, through an intricate process in which the firm texture and notes of honey and oregano are achieved through an 18-month maturation in wood. The cheese also stands out for diluting lactic aromas with sweet and toasted caramel flavours, which captivated the entire court.

However, this is not the first time that this cheese has received an award, as in 2023 it was chosen Best Cheese of the Canary Islands Agrocanarias 2023.

The artisan cheese factory stands out for the quality of its product and for its philosophy of sustainable production with the aim of respecting animal welfare backed by food controls.

Undoubtedly, the effort, dedication and care with which they obtain and transform their milk, has made them achieve cheeses with a unique personality and quality, endorsed by the great experts in the sector, and awarded in major national and international specialised competitions’, they explain from the QuesosGourmets competition.
