Just before Silvio Berlusconi was admitted last Friday to Milan’s Raffaele hospital, where he died three days later at the age of 86 from leukemia, he asked to stop by the ‘Maximilian Bistrot’ located in Milano 2, the residential complex built by his construction company in the 1970s.

At Maximilian, Berlusconi ate some water ice cream, specifically orange popsicles. “He ordered an orange popsicle and sat down at the corner table, right in front of the cash register and the glass window,” EL PAÍS highlights.

“But what are you doing?” his partner Marta Fascina reproached him, to which he replied: “It’s just water, anyway,” according to Corriere della Sera.

From that event there is a photograph, the last one: where he appears fatigued, but smiling sitting next to a child. “He looked bad, but he still had the strength to joke and greet everyone, even my 7-year-old son, a Milan fan,” said Massimiliano Albanse, the owner of the bar.

“Here at Maximilian Bistrot our daily goal is to create, serve and enjoy good food. We love fresh, tasty, seasonal food with bold flavors. Every morning, before opening the Bistrot kitchen, we stock the pantry with fresh ingredients purchased from the market, to serve dishes with ingredients that are as fresh and flavorful as possible,” highlights the restaurant’s website.

Maximilian’s menu features typical Italian dishes such as Caesar salad, spaghetti and meatballs or wild mushroom pizza, a wide variety of cocktails and artisanal desserts and ice creams.
