The famous chef from Girona, Jordi Roca, is one of the most recognized pastry chefs worldwide. His restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, has three Michelin stars and has been recognized as one of the 50 best restaurants worldwide by ‘Restaurant‘ magazine. That same magazine named him the best pastry chef in the world in 2014.

Although he has been suffering from an illness for 7 years that has caused him hoarseness, it has not prevented him from making a name for himself both on social networks and on television and he is now a recognizable figure on the audiovisual scene. In 2018, Netflix premiered an episode dedicated to Jordi Roca in the series ‘Chef’s table‘.

His favorite fruit

Jordi Roca’s last television appearance was in the well-known program presented by David Broncano, La Resistencia, on Movistar+. There, the chef openly answered the comedian’s questions.

Broncano wanted to know what the favorite fruit of a chef as renowned as Jordi was “if he had to choose one” for the rest of his life. A question that he forced Jordi to think about, because he had never chosen one in particular.

The program’s collaborator Grison said that his favorite was “the costeño loquat” because “it tastes coffee.” The chef finally answers that he prefers “cocoa as a fruit”. David Broncano answers that “it is not a fruit”, but Jordi insists that it is, and finally Grison adds: “But it does come in a pot”.

The most bizarre dessert

Jordi Roca has also made desserts that are a trompe l’oeil, that is, they look like what they are not. “I once made a Tampax“, says the chef. The dessert he made “was a colorless Bloody Mary,” and the tampon “had dye.” In reality, what a tampon looked like was “sugar with a thread” and when it sank into the cocktail, it turned red.

It is not the only dessert that has made these characteristics. He also did it with a condom: ” It was a condom, he dipped it in gelatin“, and then he “filled it with white chocolate cream and yogurt.” And he said it was “a spring roll.” Of course, he himself describes it as something “very unpleasant” and that he only does it for friends, “never” in his restaurant.
