Food trends, like all trends in today’s age, are constantly born and die in the vastness of the internet at the click of a ‘scroll’. However, there are some in a ‘macro’ version, which remain for longer periods of time and even epochs that synchronise with the zeitgeist.

Based on consumer dynamics and inclinations, Whole Foods Market‘s prescribers and/or their panel of 50 team members have predicted and drawn 10 solid conclusions for the year ahead.

According to Whole Foods, the main food trend of 2024 will revolve around the renaissance of plant-based food. That is, plant-based foods made from real plants, moving away from lab-produced or simulated meats to plant-based burgers and dishes made from real vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds.

As for other notable food trends, watch out for whole cocoa products such as granola, the rise of naturally gluten-free and protein-rich buckwheat and plant-based fish imitations.

In addition, the study results highlight products that focus on water conservation, various global peppers or gourmet instant noodles.

Rounding out the top 10 are hormonal health products that help alleviate symptoms during life stages such as pregnancy, postpartum and menopause. And finally, ‘clean caffeine’ options such as mushroom-infused coffee, green tea with prebiotics or cold brews are making headway.
