Beyond their intrinsically functional essence, these creative ceramic pieces or avant-garde tableware are designed in different textures, silhouettes and glazes to accompany gastronomic creations and emphasise the chef’s discourses. We present 4 of the best artisans within this new scene who have captivated both haute cuisine chefs and food lovers and/or aesthetes.

COOKPLAY

Its founder and designer Ana Roquero has been working since 2014 to create a new generation of tableware with porcelain collections designed from creativity and the provocation of emotions, looking to the future with the aim of building its own “Food-design Universe” through its characteristic organic designs.

Cookplay thus elevates to the category of art a whole constellation of sustainable tableware that it produces from its studio in Sondika (Vizcaya), with which it has dressed the tables of some of the best restaurants in the country and attracted iconic chefs such as Arzak Etxanobe or Martín Berastegui.

LUESMA & VEGA

Esther Luesma & Xavier Vega are the artisan artists behind Luesma & Vega, dedicated to the edition of limited series of tableware for haute cuisine, totally transformable and recyclable.

This design studio dedicated to the design and production of artistic glass objects using contemporary techniques has been revered by designers, decorators, chefs and gastronomic cult restaurants such as El Bulli, Diverxo, Mugaritz and Arzak.

WASARA

WASARA, which literally means plate in Japanese, is the ephemeral tableware sculpted by Japanese designer Shinichiro Ogata. Emotional creations in which he combines traditional craftsmanship with Japanese aesthetics and values.

Within his sculptural universe, we find biodegradable tableware made from bamboo and waste from the extraction of sugar cane juice, inspired by Japanese design, and created for single use.

The minimalist and geometric aesthetic of the WASARA collection ranges from round and square plates in different sizes to rectangular trays and rectangular plates for sauces. A creative composition that has just been completed with a series of bowls, chokos, cups and glasses visually synchronised with which to dress the table with art and design.

GRESIERRA

The ceramic artisans of Gresierra founded their small workshop in 19994 in the centre of Chiclana, an enclave from which they expanded their identity around the world.

Its ceramic collection, materialised through materials such as terracotta, refractory, Egyptian paste or majolica, is characterised by clean lines and functionality, resulting in a product that combines a modern aesthetic with a handcrafted finish to provide temporary alternatives to mass-produced ceramics.
