This is the Yucatán roscón: a Mexican taco turned into a roscón de Reyes

A bakery in Seville has created a salty roscón de Reyes with the ingredients of a Mexican taco.

It is becoming more and more common to find roscones de Reyes with different proposals or peculiar recipes for this typical Christmas dessert. Although sweet flavors are traditional, there are also those who dare to innovate with savory ingredients. In a bakery in Mairena de Aljarafe in Seville, every year they sell a salty roscón de Reyes. On this occasion, they have created the Yucatan roscón, a Mexican taco turned into a roscón de Reyes. A trompe l’oeil that has gone viral.

A typical roscón de Reyes can be without filling or with chocolate, cream, cream or a combination. Although every year new versions appear with other ingredients of the most striking. One of the most original proposals has been created by the Sevillian bakery La Esencia. They have called it the Yucatan roscón and it is made with the ingredients of a Mexican taco.

This roscón is made with a corn brioche, filled with cilantro pesto cream with pico de gallo, a touch of avocado and cochinita pibil in large and small sizes. They have created about 300 units at a price between 20 and 30 euros, depending on the size.
