Lana del Rey‘s stellar appearance at the Waffle House fast food chain (Alabama) was shrouded in mystery. In a viral video, the singer could be seen wearing the store’s standard employee uniform, including a name tag, as she served customers behind the counter.

Now, the pop icon shares the story behind that enigmatic episode in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently, she was a regular customer of the chain with her brother and sister before ‘dressing up as an employee’ and taking selfies with fans in the regulation uniform.

‘We were in our third hour and the bartenders asked us, ‘Do you guys want T-shirts?’ revealed Lana to the magazine. ‘Of course we did! We were thrilled […] ‘This guy, a regular, comes in every day and asks for two things, so they said, ‘Go get it for him!’ I brought him a Coke. No ice. And an empty glass,’ he explains. ‘I didn’t see anyone videotaping me.’

Reflecting on the reaction to his appearance at the restaurant, Del Rey added sarcastically: ‘I wish my album had been so viral’, confirming that this ‘work shift’ in the cafeteria was something much more banal than a marketing strategy.
