There’s nothing like starting the day with a good breakfast and a great coffee to give you enough energy to last you through the morning. There are more and more specialty coffee shops that prepare scandalous coffees, but you can’t always go every morning to pick it up. If you want to enjoy a delicious latte made by you, we leave you the recipe so you can prepare it at home. It’s easier than you think. On this occasion, we show you how to prepare a latte, in which the milk is more important than the coffee and the main characteristic is its soft and silky foam (which is usually decorated with a drawing). Take note!

Recipe for homemade latte with art

Ingredients and directions:

  • 220 ml of whole milk
  • Machine espresso coffee
  • Sugar or sweetener of choice
  • Milk frother
  • Milk to coffee ratio: 1/3 coffee and 2/3 steam-heated milk, with 1 cm of foam

Preparation:

  • As recommended in Today, to prepare the perfect latte, there is a specific order to follow during the brewing process, as Joe Burns, from Trace Brewing, points out. In this case, the first step would be to prepare the espresso in a cup (you can give it one or two charges, depending on the amount of coffee you prefer). Then, you should add sugar (or sweetener), so that it dissolves more easily in the hot beverage.
  • On the other hand, it is the moment to heat the milk and froth it (the ideal is to have a frother for this purpose). Serve it in the cup with the coffee.
  • If you dare with the art latte (decorate the coffee with drawings), you should follow the following steps.
  • Froth the milk to texturize it (if you have not done it before). Tap the pitcher to eliminate the bubbles and get a creamier texture.
  • Fill the cup with the espresso crema (creamy, frothy top layer of espresso) intact to prepare the ‘canvas’.
  • Then pour the milk (frothed) about 10 cm from the cup and at a steady pace, so as not to break the stream; keep moving the carafe in zig-zag movements. A white circle will be created on the coffee.
  • When the cup is half full, tilt the cup and bring the nozzle of the milk jug as close as possible to the circle of milk that has formed in the cup. Here you will have to make a movement in line on the circle and leaving a peak at the end to form a heart, which is one of the easiest figures to start in this art latte.
  • If you dare with more complex figures, get creative, but we anticipate that this step requires a lot of practice and a little skill.
