Gwyneth seems to have ceased to be the queen of the ‘paleo diet‘. That is, a diet based on foods that humans might have eaten during the Paleolithic era. Now, she has decided to block that reductionist lifestyle to return to carbohydrates and dairy.
In a recent “for the love of food” episode of her goop podcast -available on Spotify– Paltrow revealed that she had ditched the Paleolithic diet; while talking about the role food had played in her life: how it had shaped her wellbeing, her creativity and her relationships. ‘Many of the moments I cherish most have taken place in the kitchen or around a table.’
In the podcast, the actress also talks about how her father’s love of food -and the illness he eventually suffered- transformed her understanding of food and sparked a journey that would ultimately define her approach to cooking, healing and care. She also talks about the beauty of feeding the people you love -from Saturday morning breakfasts for Brad to the daily joy of cooking for her children- and how the kitchen became her space for creativity, grounding and love.
Paltrow also wanted to address her experience with the paleo diet and macrobiotics that for a time she became obsessed with, with eating very healthy. ‘Brad [Falchuk] and I went paleo a few years ago, although I’m a little sick of it, if I’m being honest, and I’m going back to eating sourdough bread and some cheese.’ However, that change hasn’t caused her to abandon wellness, emphasising that she still focuses on eating “as whole and fresh as possible” with a diet made up, for the most part, of anti-inflammatory foods.
