Starbucks has more than 38,000 locations in more than 38 countries, but it has never had one like the one that has just opened in the Texan city of Brownsville.
Technological innovation now fully enters the world of catering in this coffee shop built in 3D, especially in terms of residential construction. A mode of construction that costs more than traditional timber framing, but which helps to alleviate labour shortages and the acceleration of construction.
The chain posted a reel on Instagram showing the entire construction process of the shop as a robotic arm places concrete, resulting in a unique drive-thru with layers and ribbed walls that reflect the three-dimensional building.
Starbucks‘ foray into 3D aligns with the company’s ongoing restructuring plan. Since Brian Niccol took over as CEO of Starbucks in September 2024, the retail brand has implemented significant changes in its shops, with the aim of reversing the decline in sales. In its results report for the first quarter of 2025, the company reported that sales in the United States had fallen by 4%, while customer traffic in physical shops had dropped by 8%.
