Mystery menus have become a constant feature of the fast food chain, generating new trends on TikTok to promote emerging creations. What its fandom never expected, however, was that a whole birthday cake could be found in one of its meals.

This retro-inspired edible reality was projected by user @kayrock9 through a TikTok video in which he talked about the “Ronald Birthday Cake”. A piece in which the following caption was inscribed: “Did you know that McDonalds sells $9 cakes?”, and a person could be seen cutting the chocolate cake in question. It is a cake that appears to be made with buttercream frosting, and sealed by a Ronald McDonald silkscreen on top.

The Internet community was totally shocked to see this clip, which was followed by a series of reactions ranging from astonishment to satire. “This looks like it’s straight out of 1998 without permission,” one person commented. “It’s $9 because they’ve been trying to sell it since 1983,” joked another user.

Other tiktokers expressed surprise at the cake’s unique appearance. “Why is the cake BLACK? It’s not even grayish, there has to be a lot of artificial coloring to make it so dark.”

Although this vintage Ronald’s cake is available on the McDonald’s web display, getting the cake can be a bit tricky, according to the New York Post. It is only available at select McDonald’s locations, and must be on the official menu.
