Despite this established divergence with his native country, what always generated a kind of devotion in him was Argentinean gastronomy. A sentiment that would be immortalised in cookbooks such as \u2018The Vatican Cookbook\u2019. In his memory, here are some of <strong>Pope Francis&#8217; favourite foods<\/strong> in Argentina and Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a fan of <strong>Argentinian food<\/strong>,<strong> empanadas <\/strong>were a must on his divine menu. In \u2018Eating with Pope Francis\u2019, it is noted that \u2018as a good Argentinian, he never failed to buy empanadas, characteristic packages with meat, or with cheese, ham and other fillings\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"742\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/vatican-cookbook.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-287483\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/vatican-cookbook.jpg 742w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/vatican-cookbook-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/vatican-cookbook-400x539.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 742px) 100vw, 742px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In \u2018<strong>The Vatican Cookbook<\/strong>\u2019, it is shown that Argentinian empanadas are made with flour-based dough, like puff pastry, and filled, usually with sirloin steak. As for the dessert, author Alborghetti reveals that Pope Francis was a fan of the \u2018delicious sweets of [his] grandmother Rosa and his mother Regina Maria, such as the chocolate cakes, a true triumph of delight.\u2019 Along with cake, the Pope was also a fan of alfajores, the divine cookbook says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Italian dishes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite growing up in Argentina, Pope Francis&#8217; parents were Italian, so he also had a love of Italian cuisine. According to The Vatican Cookbook, the Pope once said: \u2018If I had only one wish, what would it be? The only thing I would like is to go out one day, unrecognised, and go to a pizzeria and eat pizza\u2019.
