The Internet is often presented as a powerful social tool with which to influence others in a positive way. An effect that the Brooklyn community has managed to achieve this time in order to prevent the closure of a small business, in which even Joe Jonas has intervened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all started on 26 February, when owner Rachel Nieves posted a video on TikTok with heartbreaking news about her business Buddies Coffee. \u2018Today, I was just told that I may not be able to stay on the same lease because of the rent increase, which is the reality for so many people. But not only that. Right next door they’re going to put a coffee shop,\u2019 Nieves shares in the now viral video, holding back tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happy start to women\u2019s history months I guess ! \ud83d\ude18 Hearing this news today just now completely broke me. As a self funded small like true mom and pop business this news is scary – I\u2019ve never tried to nor want to \u201ccompete\u201d with anyone. If you know me you know I truly don\u2019t see anyone as a competitor- however, knowing someone -whoever they are is planning on opening literally next door not down the block across the street around the corner. I cannot deny it will crush me. I\u2019m hopeful we will make the most out of these next 6-7 months in this space and I just know God was holding my hand when I decided to sign a lease in the city (with hopes and dreams of having two shops) I will continue to remain delusional always I will always work hard show up for myself and show up for others.
