Last week, temperatures in the <strong>Midwest<\/strong> reached record highs that worsened for an unexpected reason: corn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand that cause-and-effect, we need to talk about the meaning of &#8216;corn sweat&#8217;. This is a phenomenon that is adding moisture to the atmosphere and making hot conditions even more unpleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although &#8216;corn sweat&#8217; is not an official scientific term, it is used to describe evotranspiration: a natural process by which plants bring water to the surface, such as corn. The water then evaporates into the surrounding atmosphere, creating uncomfortably hot conditions as it gives off moisture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CORN SWEAT Is swamping the Midwest. \ud83c\udf3d\ud83c\udf3d\ud83c\udf3d<br><br>One acre of mature corn can release 3,000 gallons per day!
