According to the<strong> FAO <\/strong>(Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations), almost <strong>70% of our daily water consumption<\/strong> is used in our diets worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The climate emergency and the resulting global drought are limiting the amount of water available for human consumption, agriculture and industry. In this sense, the average Spaniard consumes around 166 litres per day, distributed between showers, washing, cooking and other cleaning tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-227762\" style=\"width:1034px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-1024x576.webp 1024w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-300x169.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-768x432.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-1536x864.webp 1536w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-2048x1152.webp 2048w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-1200x675.webp 1200w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-1000x563.webp 1000w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/huella-hidrica-alimentos-2-400x225.webp 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In order to alleviate this paradigm of absolute dryness, following sustainable and healthy diets, such as the <strong>Mediterranean diet<\/strong>, based on fruit, vegetables and fish, leads directly to saving water, as animal fats and dairy products are the foods that need the most water to be produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes <strong>15,000 litres of water <\/strong>to produce <strong>1 kilo of beef<\/strong> and almost <strong>5,000 litres <\/strong>of water to produce 1 kilo of<strong> chicken<\/strong>. A cup of coffee is equivalent to 140 litres of water, a litre of beer is equivalent to 150 litres of water and a bottle of wine is equivalent to 750 litres.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click here to read the Spanish version.
