A groundbreaking case in which a woman decided to sue<strong> McDonald&#8217;s<\/strong> after spilling her hot coffee on her own lap when she was already in the car.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-2.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-2.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205319\" style=\"width:1116px;height:656px\" width=\"1116\" height=\"656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-2.webp 640w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-2-300x176.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-2-400x235.webp 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1116px) 100vw, 1116px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>She was admitted to the hospital for a week with third-degree burns on her thighs. The case went to court, and <strong>Liebeck <\/strong>claimed $20,000 from <strong>McDonald&#8217;s<\/strong> to pay for the injuries, as the chain&#8217;s coffee was kept at a scalding hot temperature of at least 30 degrees above average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the trial, it was revealed that at least 700 other McDonald&#8217;s customers had complained to the company about the coffee temperature over the previous decade, claiming to have suffered burns, and McDonald&#8217;s never did anything about it. In the end, the jury awarded Liebeck <strong>$200,000<\/strong> in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A flood of text messages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beverly Hills resident <strong>Jonathan Anozie <\/strong>sued<strong> Papa John&#8217;s<\/strong> pizza chain for sending him too many text messages with pizza offers through an automated marketing system.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205321\" style=\"width:1302px;height:977px\" width=\"1302\" height=\"977\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-3.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1302px) 100vw, 1302px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This case could become legally valid, as Anozie sent a &#8216;STOP&#8217; text message to the robotic messaging system and the messages continued to arrive, as a practice in breach of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The court argued that the messages caused Anozie &#8216;great anxiety, frustration and annoyance&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shortage of sandwiches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, a Tennessee man named <strong>Craig Barr <\/strong>filed a lawsuit against Popeyes in Hamilton County General Sessions court alleging &#8216;false advertising, deceptive trade practices by the entity to the public&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205323\" style=\"width:1192px;height:795px\" width=\"1192\" height=\"795\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-4.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-4-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1192px) 100vw, 1192px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Barr also claimed that he wasted &#8216;countless time&#8217; driving to and from Popeyes in search of an elusive sandwich, during which time his car&#8217;s tire and rim were damaged. He ended up suing the chain for <strong>$5,000<\/strong>, even going to trial. Since that time, it is unknown whether or not he ultimately obtained that requested amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Misleading advertising<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bud Light <\/strong>serves its ads with ice-cold beer and sexy girls, as in many other alcoholic beverage spots of the 1990s. Well, one Michigan man did not receive the product as advertised, or so he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-8.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-8.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205350\" style=\"width:1063px;height:798px\" width=\"1063\" height=\"798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-8.webp 661w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-8-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-8-400x300.webp 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1063px) 100vw, 1063px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In 1991,<strong> Richard Overton<\/strong> sued <strong>Anheuser-Busch Corporation<\/strong> alleging that the Bud Light he consumed did not transport him to a paradise full of beautiful women as the advertisement claimed. Within his claims, Overton added his suffering emotional distress, financial loss and mental damages. He sued for $10,000 and was awarded $0. The case was dismissed by the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lack of beverage prices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, <strong>Robert Cameron<\/strong> of New Jersey sued a <strong>TGI Fridays<\/strong> franchise for failing to list drink prices on its menu, which he said in 2012 caused him to order a $5 beer and a $3 soda that were more expensive than he expected.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205327\" style=\"width:1220px;height:685px\" width=\"1220\" height=\"685\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-1536x862.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-1000x561.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/absurdos-casos-demandas-restaurantes-6.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1220px) 100vw, 1220px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>His lawsuit alleged that the restaurant deliberately concealed prices so it could charge more, in violation of state law requiring prices for most consumer goods to be posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In court filings, the franchise claimed it had listed drink prices on menus since August 2017, while Cameron&#8217;s attorney expressed that not listing prices was a &#8216;carefully researched scheme&#8217; intended to charge customers more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BK sues for $17<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After being double charged for a meal at Burger King,<strong> Doug <\/strong>and <strong>Patty<\/strong> Wargo, a Pennsylvania couple, demanded their money back.
