An ironic yet effective event that helped stop a Long Island serial killer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you missed this episode,<strong> Long Island<\/strong> (NY) has a serial killer who pleaded not guilty to murder charges related to the murders of three women of the so-called &#8216;<strong>Gilgo Four<\/strong>&#8216;, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello, whose remains were found near another of the victims, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, within a quarter-mile radius near Gilgo Beach in December 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect in the case has now been identified as Rex Heuermann, 59, according to law enforcement in charge of the case, being charged with first-degree and second-degree murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gilgo Beach murders live updates: Rex Heuermann ID\u2019d through DNA on pizza crust <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W2yxEplFC6\">https:\/\/t.co\/W2yxEplFC6<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WarA8Z5KGd\">pic.twitter.com\/WarA8Z5KGd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; New York Post (@nypost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\/status\/1679923156059062272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 14, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This case was cracked through the connection of a series of clues and evidence that led to his arrest. One of them was the pizza. Heuermann used to commute from Long Island to <strong>Penn Station<\/strong> to work as an architect in <strong>Manhattan<\/strong>. There, according to recently released court documents, a surveillance team recovered in January 2023 a pizza box -with all the remnants of the pizza crust- thrown by Heuermann into a trash can on Manhattan&#8217;s Fifth Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few months later, hair particles were found on one of the victims that directly matched the DNA detected on the<strong> pizza crust<\/strong>, becoming further defining evidence for authorities to order the arrest of this Long Island serial killer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click here to read the Spanish version.
