A South Korean art student ate a banana that was part of an exhibition by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan at the Leem Art Museum in Seoul. The young man, named Noh Huyn-soo, argued to different media that he did it because he was “hungry” as he had skipped breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work titled ‘Comedian’, had already gone viral in 2019 when it was presented at the Art Basel Miami Beach fair. At that time, said work was sold for $120,000, something that upset the artist David Datuna, which is why he took the banana off the wall and ate it, assuring that Cattelan “was a genius, but he didn’t agree with the amount of money he earned with a banana that cost 20 cents,” TN reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, the young South Korean was videotaped by a friend as he removed the banana taped to a museum wall and ate it in front of visitors. He then reattached the peel using the tape and calmly walked away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite initially saying he ate it because he was hungry, hours after the incident, young Noh Huyn-soo told KBS, he “saw Cattelan’s work as an act of rebellion against authority. There may be another rebellion against rebellion, as damaging a work of art can also be seen as a work of art. I thought that would be interesting\u2026. Isn’t it stuck there to be eaten?” the young man stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
