The Asturian explained that cava is delicious, easy to pair and perfect for any party. What&#8217;s more, &#8220;it&#8217;s much more affordable than that other sparkling wine they make in France&#8221;, he joked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main reasons for opting for cava is its price, &#8220;more affordable and of the same quality&#8221;. The winemaker Josep Ravent\u00f3s, from the Catalan region of Pened\u00e8s, travelled to the French Champagne and learned about the winemaking techniques of the area. On his return he began to experiment with what he had learnt. And in 1872 he made the first sparkling wine using local grapes and the traditional champenoise method. He first called it champagne, although in 1970 Spanish winemakers renamed it &#8220;cava&#8221; so as not to upset French champagne producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-176393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.tapasmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cava-champan.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the great pairing of cava with any food is another reason why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/chefjoseandres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s<\/a> loves the Spanish sparkling wine. It goes very well with salted oysters, Galician octopus or garlic prawns with garlic. Iberian ham is another classic match. It also goes perfectly with traditional dishes such as Valencian paella, Madrid-style tripe or Catalan chicken.
