The resale culture demonstrates once again how a commodity can reach exorbitant prices after going viral. Trader Joe‘s supermarket’s mini cloth bags have been the latest to reinforce this.

After the overwhelming success of its first drop in primary colours, the supermarket has decided to launch a second collection of mini bags this year, stamped with the Trader Joe‘s logo. And, just like in 2024, they have unleashed a frenzy for shoppers, who have generated endless queues and left the shelves empty. The shop didn’t even promote the product, a representative told USA Today.

The new Easter range featured pastel versions of blue, green, purple and pink, measuring just 13 x 11 x 6, for a very reasonable $2.99 a piece. However, when the stock ran out, the price was raised out of all proportion when it was resold on the internet. Resellers started offering the item for more than USD 500; some even went as high as a whopping USD 1 million for a set of 8 bags, which equates to USD 125,000 per bag.
