For another year, the Lavapiés neighborhood has been the cradle of tapas for 10 days with a new edition of Tapapiés (2023 was the 13th). From October 19 to 29 more than 90,000 people have paraded through the iconic neighborhood to taste the elaborations of more than 103 bars and restaurants, accompanied by a beer. In total, more than 300,000 tapas were sold during this event organized by the Lavapiés Merchants Association. In addition, at the end of each edition, the best Tapas are chosen after receiving the highest scores.

This year the winning tapa tastes like brunch. The first prize went to the ‘Benedictino leonés’, created by Carmencita Brunch, located at Calle Sombrerería, 6. With a total score of 4’9 thanks to its original proposal that fuses the classic Anglo-Saxon eggs Benedict and the picadillo matancero from León. Carmencita Brunch also has two more locations in Malasaña and another in La Latina.

The second best tapa went to the stall El Perenquén of the San Fernando Market and its Japanese creation ‘dorayaki de mechada canaria’, which obtained 4’79. It is a version of the Japanese dorayaki sponge cake, but is filled with low-temperature Canarian larded meat, with crunchy mango.

Closing the podium there is also another international proposal with the Norwegian ‘sabor a mi’ from Tostas & Bacalao (in Argumosa, 29). It is made with skrei from the Lofoten Islands and cod stew with onion, potatoes and eggs.
