What would you do if you were stopped on the street, asked for a recipe idea and they cooked it for you to try? Maybe at first you wouldn’t be too confident, considering the amount of street pranks that are shared on social networks nowadays. But, if you’re walking through the streets of New York and suddenly a stranger shouts at you from the balcony asking you for a recipe, get in the game because it’s about the chef known as Joe Fire Escape. This American chef is dedicated to asking strangers for dishes from the fire escape of his building (hence his name).

Most people access the game: from a group of young students to an Amazon delivery man or a man walking his dog. He’s even gone so far as to do it with his own mother.

The dynamic is as follows. Joe looks out on the fire escape and asks any passerby, “If you could cook one meal, what would it be?”. And whatever they answer, Joe prepares it at home. Once it’s cooked, the chef usually comes back out onto the balcony and asks another passerby to taste what he’s made.

Among all the street-inspired recipes cooked by the Fire Escape chef, we can find dishes such as pasta with vodka sauce, traditional chicken tacos, Butter Chicken, beef curry or lobster with pasta, butter and garlic.

If Joe asked you for a recipe, what dish would you choose for him to cook for you?
