Spanish culture is attracting more and more interest in other parts of the world. Whether for its rich and varied gastronomy, its deep-rooted cultural traditions or its beautiful landscapes, our country is attracting a lot of attention. Proof of this is the new documentary series that premiered on 20 March in the United States on the Cooking Channel. It is called Secrets of Spain and seeks to break with any cliché, showing the essence of Spain’s roots through a journey that begins in Andalusia and will introduce viewers to unusual corners of the south of the country, with gastronomy at the heart of the adventure.

Acting as hosts are English-born siblings George and Gioconda Scott, who grew up in Spain and share a passion for Spanish food and culture. George is an olive oil supplier and adventure guide, while Gioconda is a chef and restaurateur, and a few months ago opened her own restaurant in the Seville town of Cazalla de la Sierra. This is where they will start their particular adventure to discover unusual places little known to the general public, taste all kinds of culinary delights and discover all the secrets hidden in a region like Andalusia.

A road trip with gastronomy at its core

On this special road trip – which will end in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) – the Scott brothers will have the opportunity to meet, for example, a prestigious Iberian ham cutter, learn about the origins of this emblem of Spanish cuisine and, of course, taste it in all its splendour. They will also visit a cloistered convent where they will taste typical sweets originating in the 13th century. They will also visit a cloistered convent where they will taste typical sweets originating from the 13th century. And their taste of Spain will be varied: from a delicious gas station meal to enjoying typical tapas accompanied by music and dance, among other unforgettable experiences.

The new project is produced by Eva Lindemann, Michael Kaufman and James Costos, who was once the US ambassador to Spain and is currently the president of Secuoya Studios. Costos is also a lover of our country and, through this space, seeks to show the essence and authenticity hidden in every corner of the Spanish territory. We can’t wait to see the whole series.
