Gingerbread recipe, the Christmas cake that you have to prepare

In the middle of the Christmas week, we recommend you this typical sweet of these holidays that is very easy to prepare.

Now that the season of nougat, panettones and polvorones is over, today we add a new Christmas dessert to our sweet diet. This is gingerbread, a very spongy sponge cake with the spicy touch of ginger as the main ingredient. The recipe for this gingerbread is very easy and we show you the step by step below. Take note!

Gingerbread recipe

Ingredients:

  • 120 g unsalted butter
  • 120 g white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 120 ml cane honey
  • 500 g plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt
  • Hot water

Preparation:

  • Preheat the oven to 175 ºC, while greasing a baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter -previously softened- until creamy.
  • Then add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is fluffy. Add the egg and the cane honey and continue mixing until smooth.
  • Sift the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt into another bowl.
  • Add it little by little to the first mixture, stirring until everything is well incorporated. Finally, pour in the hot water until a homogeneous dough is formed.
  • Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  • To know if it is well done inside, put a toothpick in the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, it is ready.
