Consum has achieved the best business figures in its history with a turnover of 4,388.7 million euros, an increase of 13.6% over the previous year. Net profit soared by 75%.

All this has come about thanks to price increases as a way of offsetting rising costs, making its surface sales grow by 0.2% and in volume by 6.5%, achieving a great impact on the sector which has been related to the increase in profitability, according to its general manager Rodriguez Lázaro.

This is largely attributed to the fact that our electricity consumption pie has been reduced and also to the fact that we have made a major effort in terms of competitiveness. Consum’s energy strategy includes a 20-year agreement with Endesa for the supply of energy generated in a solar farm. The group, which is also installing solar panels in 2/supermarkets and two of its logistics centres, claims that 97% of its energy is renewable’.

The spanish chain has risen to sixth place in the Spanish food distribution ranking with a share of 4.6%: a trend which, according to its forecasts for this year, will continue along the same lines and even higher thanks to a 5% increase in sales, and in its online sales due to the construction of its first logistics platform dedicated to e-commerce and the opening of 15 of its own shops and 35 Charter shops.
