We already know that many actors carry out risky processes to get into the skin of different characters. Examples such as Christian Bale in The Machinist, Tom Hanks in Castaway, Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club or Charlize Theron in Tully are good examples. The latest to join this list of radical changes is actor Cillian Murphy. The star of Christopher Nolan’s new film, Oppenheimer, plays Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist who is known as the “father of the atomic bomb”.

To do so, the Irish actor decided to lose a lot of weight, and I did it by following an extreme diet, according to his co-star, actress Emily Blunt, who plays his wife in the fiction, Kitty Oppenheimer. According to Blunt, the hard diet she had to follow was based on eating one almond a day and, of course, she did not attend the dinners that the rest of the cast had.

Although the actor has declined to go into detail about how much weight he lost for that shoot, Murphy revealed that it had been a tough process, that he doesn’t recommend it and that he got so into the role that he even forgot about food. “I was running on crazy energy; I passed a threshold where I didn’t care about food or anything. I was really into it, in a state of hyperactivity. But it was good because the character was like that. I never ate,” he said in an interview with IndieWire.

In addition, the interpreter clarified that the character he plays was fed “on cigarettes, pipes and Martinis”, before dying of cancer in 1967″. He concluded his statement by affirming that he loves acting with his body and preparing all his extreme roles in this way.
