The festival of colors that tinges the haute horlogerie currently has moved to the dial of the latest Luminor Due launched by the Panerai brand. Eye-catching and distinguished, the model that was born in 2016 with a thinner case than the rest of the watches of the house has been dressed in burgundy, a tone that, although not as ubiquitous as the fashionable green, is increasingly present in the catalogs of the main firms in the sector, such as IWC, Cartier and Zenith.

The new reference PAM01424, which retains the crown protector, the sandwich dial and the cushion shape of the Luminor (known for its military roots and its large size), is presented in steel and with 42 mm in diameter. Being a Due, its thickness remains at 13 mm, which is not the summum of finesse, but it is a reduction compared to the volume of its big brothers. Inside it incorporates an automatic movement with hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. It is the caliber P.900, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of three days with a single barrel.

The protagonism is taken by the dial with burgundy gradient, lighter in the center and darker as it approaches the edges. The hour indexes and Arabic numerals 6 and 12, die-cut, have been filled with white luminescent material, which glows green in the dark, like the hands. The date is located at 3 o’clock, and the seconds hand at 9 o’clock.

To contribute to the refinement of the watch, a matte black alligator leather strap has been chosen, which carries the new folding clasp of the Luminor Due 42 mm, more comfortable than the one Panerai previously used. In addition, this strap can be exchanged without tools for a more casual one (rubber, for example), thanks to the brand’s PAM Click Release system.

The price of this piece water resistant to 50 meters and only available in Panerai stores (where it is expected to arrive in the coming weeks) marks 7,400 euros, the same as the rest of Luminor Due 42 mm steel of the line.

The PAM01424 is the first launch of Panerai this year, a year that is expected to be intense for the brand in Spain, as it plans to open next June a store in Barcelona’s Paseo de Gracia by the hand of the distributor Rabat. The reason is the celebration in the Catalan capital (between August and October 2024) of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, a competition in which Panerai is present as sponsor of the Italian team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.
