El café nube ha llegado para quedarse.

Not only matcha variations rule the internet. Coffee is competing with a series of combinations that users and content creators are replicating from their homes. One of the latest caffeine trends is cloud coffee, a slightly healthier version of traditional coffee.

This creamy and tropical drink is made by combining three components: espresso, coconut water, and a milk-based creamer or similar. Replacing regular water with coconut water adds more nutrients and increases the hydration level in your daily coffee intake.

Cloud coffee is buzzing across social media in various versions, all sharing one common denominator: coconut water and ice as the base. The other key ingredient involves making a creamy froth with a milk frother to mix with freshly brewed espresso, which is then poured over the cold coconut water. However, some baristas prefer not to froth the espresso with the milk, instead pouring them directly into the glass, or adding the frothy mixture first and then the ice and coconut water.

If you happen to wonder where the name “cloud” comes from —which is also used for the matcha cloud— there are two possible explanations. First, it may refer to the cloud-like texture created by the frothed milk, or to the visual effect produced when the milk or cream mixes with the coconut water below.
